What Does It Take to Become a LEGO Designer?

For many LEGO fans, building with bricks is a favorite childhood memory. But what if your creativity, building skills, and ability to work under pressure determined whether you got your dream job?

That's the challenge faced by 21 aspiring designers invited to LEGO's recruitment workshop, where they had to prove they had what it takes to join the team behind some of the world's most beloved LEGO creations.

More Than Just Building

The workshop challenged applicants in different ways. Some sketched new concepts, while others were handed bricks and asked to bring their ideas to life.

LEGO evaluated their creativity, building techniques, conceptual thinking, and sketching skills. The exercises also gave recruiters a glimpse into how candidates approach challenges similar to those faced by LEGO's professional design teams.

And it wasn't easy. As one participant explained, building under pressure was much harder than simply playing with bricks.

Applicants came from a range of backgrounds, from recent graduates to experienced designers. Yet they shared one thing: a passion for LEGO and the opportunity to turn that passion into a career.

For some, the dream was even something they could share with their children, making the experience about more than just landing a job.
