Mariann Asanuma is a true pioneer in the LEGO® world. In 2003, she became the first American woman to serve as a Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND® California, where she crafted some of the park’s most iconic builds—including the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign, a life-size pirate, and a four-foot ladybug that remains a fan favorite.

Mariann later stepped into history again, becoming the world’s first female freelance LEGO artist. Through her company, Model Building Secrets, she has transformed her passion into a full-time creative career, inspiring thousands of builders around the world.

She is also the author of two beloved unofficial LEGO books:

  • How to Build a LEGO Ball — a surprisingly challenging skill that she breaks down with ease.

  • Bringing Color to Your Creations — a guide that helps builders elevate their models with smart color theory and design.

Mariann’s philosophy fuels everything she creates:
“From Big to Small, I Can Build It All!”

Most recently, she captured global attention with her viral LEGO Flower Stoop installation in New York City, a breathtaking sidewalk display made entirely of LEGO bricks that lit up social media and showcased her unmatched creativity.

We’re honored to welcome Mariann to Brick Blast, where her imagination, expertise, and groundbreaking legacy continue to inspire the next generation of builders.
